D Contemporary London, in collaboration with DF Agency from Manila, is delighted to present ‘Pearls of Colour,’ the first major exhibition of Philippine contemporary art in London this century. The exhibition showcases top emerging contemporary artists from the Philippine art scene, featuring a mix of outstanding, renowned artists whose work is sought after across Asia, alongside the country's top emerging talents. The exhibition includes 36 works, comprising figurative, landscape, and abstract paintings, as well as sculptures, and is jointly curated by Filipino art expert Derek Flores and D Contemporary’s Irene Pouliassi, with the valued support of the Embassy of the Philippines in London
The exhibition is an ode to Manila’s rich culture and history, connecting trade routes from the Pacific to the Spanish Americas. The exhibition celebrates the diverse and dynamic artistic expressions that have emerged from the Philippines, capturing the essence of a nation with a deep and multifaceted heritage. It highlights a vibrant tapestry reflecting modernist movements such as surrealism, expressionism, minimalism, social realism, and conceptual art, all intertwined with cultural identity and a profound national history.
