IN THE EMANCIPATION OF SELF

D Contemporary is delighted to announce an open call for our renowned annual summer exhibition, tailored to provide early to mid-career artists of any age and nationality with an opportunity to exhibit within our Mayfair gallery

Untitled design (25).jpg

Celebrating another open call, we continue our effort to discover, showcase, and support the creative practices of artists around the world. Looking to investigate the notion of progress and personal growth, this year’s theme is ‘In the emancipation of self...’

Taking inspiration from a Challenging year and from an ever-changing, fast-moving world we want to hear from artists to demonstrate their vision of Empowerment Self-awareness, and self-acceptance. Emancipation of self-entails recognizing one's agency and capacity to shape one's life according to personal choices and aspirations. It involves taking ownership of one's decisions and actions introspection and understanding of one's own identity, values, and desires. It involves accepting oneself fully, including both strengths and weaknesses and embracing authenticity.

We want to shine a spotlight on new ways of thinking and feeling in terms of exploring a spatial, physical, and emotional timeline. We aim to explore new frontiers in contemporary art by examining how current histories and our journeys intersect. It is through rituals, events, and experiences that we create our paths, as well as through social change that our myths are shaped. Through a fresh perspective, the artworks for this year should reflect and comment on the zeitgeist.

We are interested in artworks of any form/media and the judging panel will curate the exhibition best suited to our unique space in the heart of Mayfair. We invite artists to submit up to 5 images of their work for consideration. The judging panel will review all submissions once entry has closed and select works for the exhibition. If selected there will be a fee of £150+VAT per artist to participate, this goes towards the costs of the exhibition and provides you with all the benefits listed below. The exhibition will run in May 2024 at our gallery at 23 Grafton Street, Mayfair.
