D Contemporary is delighted to announce a solo exhibition of classical portraits by Svetlana Cameron. The show will mark the artist’s 15 years of a successful international career as a commissioned portrait artist and showcase a selection of oil and pastel portraits borrowed from private and institutional collections especially for the event.
Svetlana Cameron is a Russian-born British artist dedicated to the revival of traditional drawing and painting techniques. Trained in the methods of Old Masters, Cameron specializes in portraiture in the style of classical realism. She is best known for her vibrant highly detailed official portraits executed in the multi-layer Flemish oil painting method, as well as delicate life-like paintings of children in her own unique pastel technique inspired by Renaissance drawings.
Svetlana Cameron has been commissioned to paint official portraits for a number of organizations and institutions. In 2017 she unveiled a prestigious military portrait featuring General Sir Timothy Granville-Chapman, 31st Master Gunner St James’s Park, commissioned by the Royal Artillery Institution. Her portraits of President and two Speakers of the Isle of Man Parliament (Tynwald) are included in the UK national collection of oil paintings and are on permanent public display in the Legislative Buildings in the Isle of Man. Her ecclesiastical portraits hang in the collections of the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England.
