About Crowded

“crowded” is a series of works, including paintings and digital prints on aluminium, portraying diverse groups of people in everyday situations; crowds in the public domain.   The complexity and diversity of the crowd is broken down into discrete elements, marks and paint-strokes, that blend together to describe the group as a whole.  Whilst ultimately figurative paintings, modernist principles around materiality and process of manufacture are intrinsic to each piece’s individual character.   The dynamic between illusion and abstraction thereby created, enlivens the works, creating a sense of movement and animation in the crowds portrayed.
